The game's story is part of the canon storyline between Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. Kabam designed the game to evolve throughout gameplay, with staged events that bring players into sector battles that allow players to engage in real-time battles with fellow players. The game was developed by Kabam, guided by senior VP Aaron Loeb, in collaboration with Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company. Star Wars: Uprising was first announced on June 4, 2015. The game also includes large-scale, staged sector battles that players can take part in with other players. Additionally, some of the former Hutt-ruled habitations had been restored by criminal groups, who used them as headquarters. It was primarily inhabited by farmers of a serpentine creature known as ro hypa. However, by the time of the Galactic Empire's reign, the planet had been abandoned by its Hutt masters. In their heyday, the Hutts of Mataou established vast settlements in the classical architectural Hutt style. Long before the Galactic Civil War, Mataou was ruled by Hutts, including the Gnuda Kajidic. Mataou was a hot desert planet located in the Mataou system, in the Anoat sector of the Outer Rim Territories, on the edge of the Ivax Nebula.
